Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (30th April 2023)

Each year we celebrate Staffordshire Day on 1 May and this year it was great to spend the Bank Holiday at home in the Moorlands with my family and friends. Staffordshire and the Moorlands in particular has so much to offer which is why I decided on my initiative ‘A Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands’. We have so many fantastic areas, organisations, businesses, charities and so many reasons why people should visit, I am pleased to be able to let everyone know about the very special place we live in.

Out and about, talking to local people, it’s great to see just how much everyone is looking forward to the Coronation and the next Bank Holiday weekend.

As your MP, I am honoured to have been invited to a reception in Parliament on Tuesday with their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort. At the time of writing this article the event has not taken place so I am not able to share more details but will certainly do so in my next column.  I am very much looking forward to it and to watching the Coronation on TV – such an important event and a historical moment that I am sure will be remembered for years to come.

I understand that there will be many guests coming from abroad and especially from the Commonwealth, which is of particular importance to his Majesty the King.

I was therefore pleased to give a keynote speech last week in Parliament for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s British Islands and Mediterranean Region Conference. The theme of the Conference was Inclusive Parliaments and I spoke to the many delegates visiting the UK on the work that the Procedure Committee, that I chair, has been doing on this important issue.
