Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (6th November 2023)

The clocks have changed and the days are becoming shorter and this week I am highlighting a really important event in the yearly calendar as my Week 23’s Reason to Visit the Moorlands – Remembrance Sunday.

The Royal British Legion does such incredible work and all the donations provide support for members of the British Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. The Poppy Appeal is their biggest fundraising event and I would like to thank all the many volunteers who are out in the Moorlands selling poppies for this year’s Appeal.

There is exciting news this year too with the launch of the new plastic-free poppy which experts have found has a 40% smaller carbon footprint and a similar reduction in its overall impact on the environment. It’s made from a blend of renewable fibres from responsible sources and can be recycled in ordinary paper recycling collections.

I am always honoured, as your Member of Parliament, to be invited to a number of Remembrance services to pay respects on behalf of local residents to those who died in the two World Wars and other conflicts. The Moorlands always pays such fitting tributes to the men and women who gave their lives defending our freedom and there are lots of events taking place all over the constituency.

I am looking forward to taking part in the Remembrance services again this year and hope that the sun shines and we have a great turnout.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the Royal British Legion and to everyone supporting the Poppy Appeal and our Remembrance services all over the Moorlands – you are helping provide vital support to our Armed forces community and helping to ensure that their unique contribution is never forgotten. Lest we Forget.
