Kidsgrove Athletic add two signings to their squad ahead of the visit of Witton Albion

Ahead of Kidsgrove Athletic’s home game with Witton Albion, manager Scott Dundas has bolstered his squad by signing Mason Fawns and Louis Holden.

Fawns won the Young Player of the Year award for the Northern Premier League West last season.

He scored 18 goals in all competitions for Mossley as they just missed out on the playoff places by just five points. He was also named in the division’s team of the season as one of the substitutes with Sefton Gonzales (Clitheroe), James Berry (Macclesfield) and Elliot Morris (Skelmersdale United) finishing ahead of him in the team.

Those 18 goals included strikes over his new employers Kidsgrove Athletic, as well as goals against Hanley Town and Newcastle Town.

The forward then opted to join league rivals Bootle in the close season. However, in 11 games this season he couldn’t find the back of the net for the Merseyside club.

Defender Louis Holden is the other new face at the Autonet Insurance Stadium having arrived at the club from neighbours Newcastle Town.

The fullback joined Newcastle Town at the back end of last season from Runcorn Linnets and has made six appearances for Castle.

The attacking fullback was a member of Port Vale’s academy, and he also counts Welsh side Connah’s Quay as another one of his former clubs. Holden has also played for Wales as a schoolboy international where he helped Cymru to lift the Centenary Shield in 2022, the first time they have done so in 41 years.

Both players will go into the Kidsgrove squad for tomorrow’s league game with Witton Albion. It is an important fixture for the league leaders who are now just three points clear of Prescot Cables who sit second in the league table.
