Leek Town and Newcastle Town draw National League North opposition in the FA Cup

Newcastle Town will host former Championship side Scunthorpe United in the 2nd qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Irons have been on a downward slope since those days in the second tier of English football and, were relegated to the National League North at the end of the 2021/22 season. Following relegation, they have been beset with problems however, they seem to be coming out of those issues.

Their first season in the National League North saw them finish 2nd in the league table before losing to Boston United in the playoff semi-finals on penalties.

This season they have started the season well and are currently unbeaten with five wins and a draw from their opening six games.

Neil Baker’s men have got through to this stage with wins against Evesham United and Westfields (via replays) before defeating Long Eaton United 2-1 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Leek Town have been handed an away tie against National League North side Kidderminster Harriers.

The Harriers, managed by former Hull City boss Phil Brown, were relegated from the National League last season. This season they sit 4th in the league table with four wins from their opening six matches.

Josh Brehaut’s men defeated Ashby Ivanhoe 2-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Tim Grice, his 250th goal for the club, and Alex Hurst scoring his first goal for Leek.

National League North and South sides enter the competition at this stage and, so Buxton will face Barwell, who knocked Kidsgrove Athletic out of the competition at the weekend.

Ties will be played on the 14th September 2024 with the winners of each game picking up £3,375. Defeated side will collect £1,125.
