Man jailed over assault and threats to kill

A man from Bucknall has been jailed after pleading guilty to assault and making threats to kill.

Alan Raymond Davis, 52, of Ruxley Road, Bucknall, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday (3 March).

Davis has also been given a five-year restraining order.

The court heard how the offender threatened the victim with a knife on 30 December 2021 at around 1.30am.

On arrival, officers came across the offender who was on the stairs of a property, holding a knife to the victim’s throat.

The victim sustained a cut to her ear and managed to escape the offender.

The offender was detained a short time later and arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

Davis was charged with the offences and appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 31 December 2021 where he pleaded guilty to making threats to kill.

He also appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 31 January 2022 where he pleaded guilty to assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

DC Johnson of Staffordshire Police, said: “This was a very distressing incident and we are pleased with the sentence given to Davis.

“We hope this serves as a reminder that the force will take all of necessary steps to protect the safety of our communities and apprehend those intent on causing fear and violence.”
