Over 1,650 Moorlands residents will receive extra help with their council tax after the District Council announced it will be further discounting bills for the most vulnerable households.
In April this year, the Council reduced the amount of council tax payable by £25 for 1,338 of its residents and is now discounting bills by up to a further £25 for 1,663 working age and pension age people who claim Local Council Tax Support (LCTS).
The additional reduction means some claimants will have received £50 in support.
Councillor Christopher Wood, Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “With living costs remaining high, economically vulnerable households across the Moorlands continue to feel the pressure to make their budgets stretch so this additional support will, I’m sure, be very welcome.
“This extra help will benefit over 1,650 residents and doubles the support we’ve been able to offer to some of those most in need. And, as it will be automatically applied to council tax accounts, if you’re eligible to receive it you won’t even need to apply.”
