The Moorlands Local Policing Team are reminding residents to secure their homes at night.
The reminder comes following an increase in the Staffordshire Moorlands area of burglaries where people have left their front or rear door unlocked during the night.
Officers have been investigating a number of reports that have involved suspects trying handles, usually in the early hours and through the night.
It’s part of a new campaign called ‘Safe as Houses.’
Officers are reminding residents to make sure that all windows, doors and garages are left secured before going to bed.
There are a number of ways you can prevent opportunists from targeting your belongings, including:
- Keeping all doors to your property locked at all times, especially overnight when thieves might be operating. Ground floor windows should also be secured overnight.
- Locking your car when it’s parked or left unattended. If you have a keyless vehicle, don’t assume it is locked without trying the handle and store the fob in a Faraday pouch when not in use.
- Delivery drivers should not leave their vehicles running while taking goods to people’s doors.
- Don’t leave car or house keys anywhere near a letterbox or open window where thieves can fish them.
