Following an increase in accidental 999 calls, Moorlands Police have asked residents to take specific action if they make a mistake.
Each time an operator receives a silent call, officers spend time investigating if that person is safe.
So called ‘pocket dials’ have increased recently following a recent Android update that triggers an emergency call when a button on the side of the phone is pressed five times.
They are asking anyone who accidentally dials 999 to stay on the line and let them know that it was a mistake.
