Moorlands shooting club owner suffers heart attack – after being jailed

A Moorlands pensioner has suffered a heart attack in prison, shortly after being jailed.

Maurice Snelling, owner of Cloudside Shooting Club, near Rushton Spencer was jailed for perverting the course of justice after breaking lockdown rules during the Tier-3 Covid restrictions in Staffordshire.

The court heard how he had broken lockdown rules by serving mince pies and wine at the Moorlands-based shooting club, despite not being allowed to do so. He also destroyed CCTV evidence requested by the police. Mr Snelling had argued that he believed his club was in Cheshire and not subject to the tier 3 restrictions. This was rejected by the court.

Mr Snelling was jailed earlier this month for a sentence of six months. The club stated that they had been informed that Mr Maurice Snelling, aged 72, suffered a heart attack sometime on Sunday 13th November 2022. They added that Mr Snelling has had ongoing heart health issues and two previous heart attacks and was on a waiting list for a heart operation when convicted.
