November is the month when many of us wear our poppies with pride to show our ongoing support for our armed forces and ensure their dedicated service will never be forgotten.
The Royal British Legion, the UK’s biggest armed forces charity, runs the annual poppy appeal campaign to raise the funds it needs to support service men, women and their families whenever and wherever they need it.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and its waste collection partner AES are once again showing their support for the appeal, and the people it helps, by displaying poppies on waste collection vehicles.
Councillor Charlotte Atkins, Cabinet member for services, said: “At this time of year many of us wear poppies as a symbol of our support for the sacrifices and selfless service of our armed forces past and present.
“The poppy appeal is organised by the Royal British Legion, the UK’s biggest armed forces charity, to help raise the much-needed funds they need to continue their vital work supporting the men, women and children who need their help.
“We’re proud to support this work, and that of all those people who serve, by displaying poppies on our waste collection fleet again this year.”
Services of remembrance will be taking place throughout the Moorlands on Sunday 10 November.
The Council has pledged its ongoing commitment to our service personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant – a promise made by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families are treated fairly.
