Neil Baker steps down as Leek Town FC manager

Leek Town FC have confirmed that manager Neil Baker has stepped down from his position as first team manager.

The club announced that the long-serving manager, who had taken on the role for a third time back in 2017, had decided to step away from the dugout following their 4-2 defeat to Kidsgrove Athletic earlier today. However, Baker informed senior club officials that he had made his mind up over the weekend and, that this decision was made regardless of the result against Kidsgrove.

A statement released by the club reads: “The Club can confirm today that long-serving manager & Club stalwart Neil Baker has stepped down as First Team Manager.

Neil requested a meeting with Senior Directors of the Club after the game and announced he would be stepping down with immediate effect, he also said he had made his mind up at the weekend and regardless of todays result would have done the same thing with a different result.

The Club would like to express their gratitude to Neil over the past seven seasons, which has included three playoff campaigns and two seasons curtailed by COVID. Neil also served as Director prior to this.

Chairman Jon Eeles said “Neil has legendary status at the Club and there will be enormous shoes to fill going forward. I completely respect his decision and the professional way he has conducted himself today and in the past. He will always be welcome at the Club in whatever capacity he wants to watch a game and I wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”

The Club will make no further comment at this point but make a further announcement in due course around the management position going forward.”

Leek currently sit 8th in the league table following the bank holiday fixtures and, have an Emirates FA Cup tie at home to Grimsby Borough this weekend.
