NHS in Staffordshire top for winter jab uptake

The NHS in Staffordshire has delivered more Covid-19 vaccinations than anywhere else in the Midlands.

Just five weeks into the latest Covid-19 vaccination programme, more than 180,000 local people have come forward for vaccination, protecting themselves and the wider community from the virus this winter.

Alongside Covid-19 vaccinations, the local NHS is offering flu jabs and have so far delivered almost 230,000 doses.

Dr Lorna Clarson, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board said:

“Our vaccination programme continues to provide vital protection to local people. Keeping people safe is our priority so if you’re eligible we encourage you to have your Covid-19 and flu jabs if you haven’t done so already.

“Covid-19 is still circulating in the community and some people are becoming seriously unwell, and flu can be a really nasty illness for some people and can lead to hospital admission. However, the risk of becoming seriously unwell with Covid-19 or flu is hugely reduced by vaccination.

“Even if you have previously had a vaccination or been ill with flu or Covid-19 before, immunity fades over time and these viruses change each year, so it is important you top up your protection.

“The NHS will invite eligible people for their vaccinations, but you don’t need to wait for your invite to be vaccinated. If you are aged 65 and over, are pregnant, a carer, at increased risk due to a medical condition, a frontline health or social care worker, or live with someone who is immunosuppressed, you can book your appointment or go to one of our walk-in sites now.”
