Officers from Staffordshire Police have launched the force’s latest Operation Safer Nights, aimed at continuing to keep our town and city centres safe and free from alcohol-related violence.
The campaign involves officers increasing their visibility and patrols in prominent areas throughout the region, including on high streets and in town and city centres.
The patrols will enable the police and partner agencies to work together to ensure revellers know how to keep themselves safe, while also supporting the thriving night-time economies across our region.
Officers working in the neighbourhood policing teams and partner organisations will be assisting local businesses working in the night-time economy, to advise them on how to spot and help at-risk revellers, how they can access other services and sign-posting individuals for further support around consent and related issues.
Posters will also be placed in licensed venues raising awareness of personal safety issues such as drink and drug-driving and how to report if they have been a victim of a crime.
Individuals will be able to be assisted by officers and partners to gain help and advice on a range of concerns including: support for domestic abuse survivors, sexual health services, substance-abuse counselling, vulnerability and drink-spiking.
Officers will also be on hand to assist in any unfolding incidents while encouraging individuals to enjoy themselves but stay safe.

- Pre-arrange taxis for your return journey
- Drink in moderation and always watch your drink
- Stay in well-lit areas
- Keep valuables hidden
- Flag any issues to security or the police.
Speaking of the operation, Superintendent Mark Ward, head of neighbourhood policing at Staffordshire Police, said: “Our focus under Operation Safer Nights, is to make sure people who live, work and visit our region, feel safe and secure in our towns and cities at night.
“Officers will be there to make people more aware of their personal safety when they are out and about and be a visible presence in our town and city centres as we approach the festive period.
“These are safe and enjoyable places for residents and visitors and we aim to ensure that they remain so.”
In previous years, prior to the covid-19 pandemic, more than 200 people engaged with police during the operation.
Supt Ward added: “I know many of us will be keen to make the most of the festivities this December, but it is important that we continue to do what we can to help each other stay safe and take responsibility for ourselves and others while enjoying what our night-time economies have to offer.”
