Planning permission granted for new Leek McDonald’s

A new fast-food ‘drive thru’ restaurant is coming to the Moorlands.

Fast food giant McDonald’s has been granted planning permission at the planning meeting of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council today (Thursday 9th March).

The restaurant and ‘drive-thru’ is planned for the Churnet Works, Abbey Green Road in Leek adjacent to Sainsburys and will be their first restaurant in a Staffordshire Moorlands town.

The development is described as ‘a freestanding restaurant with drive-thru facility, car parking, landscaping, and associated works, including customer order displays and a play frame.’ Part of the proposals put forward promised around 120 new jobs as part of the development.

The fast-food giant’s proposals have not been without controversy, with some residents campaigning against the development. 1352 people wrote in support of the application.

The plans were submitted to the council in summer 2022
