Valiant Homecoming for Left-Back – Sam Hart Joins Port Vale

The Valiants have made their latest Summer squad announcement, revealing that Sam Hart, the 27-year-old left-back, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Club, pending approval from the English Football League (EFL) and Football Association (FA). The move marks a return to Vale Park for Hart, who briefly wore the club’s colours during a loan spell from Liverpool in 2016.

Hart’s journey in professional football has been eventful. After his initial stint with Port Vale, he went on to make a permanent move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers. However, his much coveted defensive skills led him to various loan spells at clubs like Rochdale, Southend United, and Shrewsbury Town. In 2020, he rejoined Southend United on a permanent basis.

The left-back’s career took another turn when he signed with Oldham Athletic, where he scored his only goal against none other than the Valiants! In 2022, Hart found himself back in familiar territory, joining Sutton United on a two-year deal. His outstanding performances throughout the 2023-24 season also earning him the Supporters’ Club Player of the Season award.

The signing of Hart provides another significant piece of the jigsaw as Vale look to preseason and then their season opener in Greater Manchester as they take on Salford City.

Manager Darren Moore said,

“Sam is an athletic full back with a combative nature who will bring a good balance to our backline.

“Following a number of conversations with Sam, it was easy to see that he has bought in to what we are building here at Port Vale, a competitive squad that the supporters can be proud of and confident in to represent them week in, week out.

“We are all looking forward to welcoming Sam into the club and working with him over the
coming seasons.”
