Appeal for information following fatal Moorlands collision

Police are investigating after a man died in a collision in the Staffordshire Moorlands on Thursday (27th April).

Officers were called just before 9.30pm to Cellarhead Road, Cellarhead, following reports of a collision. On arrival, a white Seat Ibiza was found on its roof. The road was closed at the Kingsley Road junction with Leek Road while emergency services attended the scene.

Sadly, a 20-year-old local man, was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later. His next of kin were informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

A 21-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested for traffic-related offences and he remains in police custody while inquiries continue.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One man from the car was already receiving medical attention from an off-duty police officer. However, sadly it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A second patient, also a man, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle beforehand or who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to get in touch with local police.

Officers are particularly keen to trace anyone who saw a male walking away from the collision scene. Witnesses can contact us through Live Chat on the website, call 101, quoting incident number 763 of 27th April, or email the collision investigation unit directly via ciu@staffordshire.police.uk.
