Ball Green man jailed after items, worth more than £10,000, stolen from property

A man from the Ball Green area has been jailed for more than two years after items, worth more than £10,000, were stolen from an address on Bemersley Road, Ball Green.

James Rogers, 38, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (6th February) to 876 days in jail after pleading guilty to burglary at an earlier hearing.

Rogers has also been ordered to pay a surcharge of £181.

The court heard how Rogers entered an address off Bemersley Road, Ball Green, as a trespasser between the late hours of 25th December 2019 and early hours of 26th December 2019.

An untidy search of the address was carried out and Rogers left the property with vehicle keys, a laptop, Macbook Pro, an Xbox and a DeWalt power drill.

A Vauxhall Corsa, belonging to the victim, was also stolen by Rogers.

The victim was not injured.

On 27th December 2019, officers located a man in relation to the burglary.

Officers also seized and recovered the Corsa, the vehicle keys and the Macbook Pro.

DC Jayne Green, of CID North at Staffordshire Police, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim and we’re pleased with the sentence handed to Rogers by the court.

“We hope it acts as a deterrent for anyone wishing to commit similar crimes in our county.”
