Biddulph man sentenced after conviction for rape

A man has been jailed for more than ten years following a non-recent rape.

Phillip Yoxall, 46, from the Biddulph area, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday (21st March) to ten-and-a-half-years in jail after being found guilty of rape after trial.

Yoxall was also handed a four-year sentence, to run concurrently, for engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and 20 months, to also run concurrently, for assault. He was found guilty of both offences.

Yoxall has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Allegations of non-recent rape were reported by the victim in June 2018 to the force and an investigation was launched.

Speaking following Yoxall’s sentencing, Detective Sergeant Dawn Moody of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, said: “The victim showed great courage in coming forward to report the abuse she suffered.

“I hope Yoxall’s sentencing brings the victim some comfort and helps her come to terms with her experience.

“The public should know that we take reports of rape extremely seriously – you will be listened to, you will be supported and we will work to achieve justice for you.

“It is never too late to report sexual offences to us, not matter how long ago it happened. We will do all we can to investigate such cases and bring offenders to justice.”
