The NHS in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent is urging residents to take action against the increasing threat of winter viruses, as Covid-19, flu, and RSV cases are on the rise.
Matthew Missen, Public Health Consultant at NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, warns of the importance of staying protected. He said:
“As we move deeper into winter, we’re seeing rapid increases in the number of people with flu and RSV infection. These viruses can cause serious health consequences and are causing increasing numbers of people needing hospital admission due to flu and RSV infection.
“Viruses evolve, which is why it’s crucial for eligible people to get vaccinated when invited to boost their immune protection. Being vaccinated can mean the difference between experiencing no or mild symptoms and becoming extremely unwell. This is important as we approach Christmas and people start to visit friends, family and socialise during the holiday period, increasing risk of winter viruses spreading.”
While Covid-19 might not dominate the headlines as it once did, it remains circulating in the population and still is a risk to at-risk groups eligible for covid-19 vaccine. Getting your vaccination on time still remains the best protection to prevent severe illness and reduce the spread of these viruses.
To make it easier for people to get vaccinated, a number of walk-in Covid-19 vaccination clinics are being held across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
These pop-up clinics offer convenient access to vital protection for those eligible. Details of the clinics can be found on our website: Walk-in Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
People eligible for the flu, covid-19 and RSV vaccines can still access vaccination through their General Practice, Pharmacy and Maternity Service.
Don’t let Covid-19, flu, or RSV disrupt your plans. Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated now.
