Firefighters put out kitchen fire at cafe near Leek

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue have extinguished a kitchen fire at a café near Leek.

Crews from Cheadle and Ipstones went to The Cottage Kitchen café on Ashbourne Road just before 12.30am on Friday (19th January) following reports of a fire.

When they got there, the kitchen was well-alight. Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire by 2.50am.

A ventilator fan was also used to clear smoke from inside the building.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire was later deemed to be accidental. Damp tumble-dried cloths self-heated and resulted in a fire.

In a social media post, The Cottage Kitchen said:

“We just want to let all our customers know that last night we unfortunately had a small accidental fire which means we will have to close our doors for a period of time, fortunately and most importantly no body was hurt, although structurally the building is okay we have a lot of smoke damage, we aim to get back up and running as quickly as we can but do anticipate being closed for a couple of weeks at least. We will keep you all updated on our progress.
Thank you all so much for your kind words and we cannot wait to welcome you all back.
We would also like to say a massive thanks to all the emergency services for there fast and efficient response.”
