Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (3rd January 2024)

We are fortunate to have many great markets taking place right across the Staffordshire Moorlands and they all contribute to making the Moorlands the very special place it is.  That is why this week, I would like to highlight our local markets as my week 31’s Reason to Visit the Moorlands.

Leek, which has held a market charter for over 800 years, hosts a variety of different markets.  Stalls line the streets at the regular markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, selling a wide range of products, including some unique antiques and collectibles, as well as clothes and homeware.  The monthly Farmers’ Market which has been a fixture for many years and the Totally Locally Sunday Supplement market, on the first Sunday of each month, both showcase the very best of local cuisine and producers.

In Biddulph, the monthly Artisan Market, which has lots of fabulous stalls with a great selection of local produce, plants, arts and crafts and textiles is a must visit as well as events such as the United Charities Market where John Bamford and his team put on a fantastic market during the festive season. There are other Charity Markets throughout the year in Biddulph too and it’s always good to see people supporting local charities and picking up great homemade and fairtrade produce and Christmas gifts and decorations.

Our local markets and shops are the heart of the community, a place to meet up with friends and a chance to support our local businesses, putting money back into the local economy.  I am always delighted to see so many shoppers sampling the many delights that we have here in Staffordshire Moorlands, our local markets right across the constituency are a great Reason to Visit the Moorlands. Please do share your photos on my Year of Reasons X/Twitter @VisitMoorlands.
