Leek firefighter awarded for exceptional work

A Leek firefighter has been awarded for his exceptional work in helping two people in distress last year.

Anthony Doolan, a Watch Manager based at Leek Fire Station, was given the award, by Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber, at a ceremony at Leek Fire Station recently.

It comes after he helped two distressed women on the A38 in Barton-under-Needwood in June and July of last year.

On both occasions, Anthony was able to convince them both to move away from the edge of the bridge and speak to professionals for support.

Following both incidents, Anthony has worked with Samaritans to print posters and then personally pinned these to the top of the bridge to offer support to those who may be struggling.

He has also helped to produce business cards with support details and has since placed these cards in fire appliances.
