Leek Town face a trip to Worcester City in the Emirates FA Cup

Leek Town face a trip to Hellenic League side Worcester City in the Emirates FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round.

Worcester, who now play back in the city of Worcester following a spell of ground sharing at Kidderminster Harriers and then Bromsgrove Sporting, have seen off Dudley Town, Westfields and Sherwood Collieries to get to this stage of the competition.

Back in 2014, they famously set the record for the longest penalty shootout in an FA Cup tie, when it took 32 penalties to see them lose 14-13 to Scunthorpe United, then of League One.

This will be the first meeting of the two teams since December 1994 when Leek ran out 3-1 winners at Harrison Park thanks to an Ian Wheaton hat-trick in the Blue’s only season competing in the Southern League.

Elsewhere, if Nantwich Town can see off Shifnal Town in their replay tomorrow night, then they will host National League North side Banbury United.

They faced the Puritans just two seasons ago, losing 2-1 to the Oxfordshire side. That result was part of the run that culminated in Banbury making the 1st round proper where they lost 4-0 to Barrow in front of the ITV Cameras.

Finally, Buxton face a tough trip as they visit Macclesfield FC.

The Bucks have made the 2nd round for the last two seasons and will be wanting to do even better this season. However, a trip to the leasing.com stadium is hardly the ideal start for Craig Elliot’s men in the competition.

Ties are to take place on Saturday 16th September 2023 with the winners of each game picking up £3,375 and the losers collecting £1,125.
