Moorlands MP presents petition to the commons on behalf of Biddulph residents

Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley presented a petition in Parliament on Thursday 20th April on behalf of Biddulph residents.

Following discussions with parents and local councillors on the issue of Education for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Biddulph and surrounding areas, Karen set up a survey/petition on her website to find out the views of local people.

Yesterday Karen presented a petition to the House of Commons:

The petition of residents of the United Kingdom,

Declares that the Government should take actions to construct a new special school in the town of Biddulph in the Staffordshire Moorlands so that children from there and the nearby surrounding areas have access to a local specialist school, notes that; this follows discussions with parents and local councillors who have formed a support group and shows that there is a legitimate need for this kind of facility at a local level; further notes that mainstream schools do not have adequate resources to provide the specialist support that these students need and require, further declares that the number of students needing specialist education is increasing; furthermore there are also issues with lack of transport should this be needed for out of area travel which can, on occasion, be both stressful and daunting for the children who are requiring specialist education.

Karen said,

“The issue of Education for children with special educational needs in Biddulph is something I am very concerned about.

“I was pleased to present the above petition in Parliament yesterday on behalf of residents in Biddulph. I have asked the Secretary of State to look into the issue.”

“I would also encourage everyone to complete the online petition/survey on my website so that I can use the data to help in my work.”

The petition has now been forwarded to the Department for Education for their consideration.
