Moorlands residents alerted to ‘asbestos scam’

Letters have been circulated within the region which carry the Environment Agency log and inform householders that high traces of asbestos have been identified at their property.

The letters give the telephone number 08085015129 and ask householders to call the number to arrange an inspection of the property.

The letters go on to state that a failure to arrange the inspection could lead to prosecution.

The letters also refer to the ‘Environmental Agency’; such mistakes are an indication that a letter or communication is not genuine.

These letters are not genuine and the Environment Agency logo is being used without authorisation.

If you receive one of the letters, dispose of it and do not call the number.
