New leisure facilities in Leek are ‘shaping up’

Brough Park Leisure Centre users can look forward to new state-of-the-art swimming and exercise facilities with work at the facility set to start later this year.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is leading the project using some of the £17.1m funding it was awarded from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to deliver:

  • A new 25m six-lane pool with an additional teaching pool
  • New swimming pool changing facilities
  • Extended and refurbished gym
  • A second large group exercise studio
  • A dedicated indoor cycling studio

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: “This really is an exciting project which will transform the facilities at Brough Park Leisure Centre as part of the wider Levelling Up funded regeneration of Leek town centre.

“We have developed major plans to transform our leisure facilities and these improvements to Brough Park Leisure Centre will really make a huge difference to encourage people to be more active.

“The plans, and the timescales for delivering the work, are currently being finalised so we can’t provide this level of detail just yet but we’re working towards the autumn of this year for work to start on site.

“As part of our commitment to providing regular updates, we want to let the groups, clubs and individuals know that this is the time of year we are working to so that they can start to plan ahead. We will, of course, continue to work with leisure centre users on alternative arrangements whilst the work takes place – but at the moment it’s business as usual.

“Whilst the closure of the centre to complete the work is unavoidable, I can assure everyone that it will be worth it and we can all look forward to modern, state-of-the-art exercise and leisure facilities that the people of the Moorlands deserve when it re-opens.”
