Port Vale knocked out local rivals Crewe Alexandra of the EFL Cup 2-0 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in normal time.
James Wilson and Ollie Arblaster scored for the Vale, while Tom Sang put his spot kick over the crossbar but, it didn’t really matter as Elliot Nevitt, Chris Long, Rio Adebisi and Joel Tainer all missed from 12 yards out to allow Andy Crosby’s men to claim victory in this D Road derby and, more importantly, progress to round three.
