Staffordshire Moorlands District Council issues information about bin collections over Christmas and New Year

The festive season is always a busy period but there’s one calendar you can count on to offer a helping hand – the Council’s online bin checker!

The ‘find your bin day’ page on the district council website means you can easily check when your waste and recycling will be collected at a time to suit you. Just enter your postcode and then select your address for full details.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. Brown bin collections will be suspended with the last collections taking place on Tuesday 24th December and resuming again from Wednesday 8th January.

Councillor Charlotte Atkins, Cabinet member for Services, said: “Some collections will take place on a different day during this year’s holiday period so it’s important that you check to see if your collection day has changed.

The website also has information about what to put in your bins if you need a reminder so you can check which seasonal items we accept on our collections and do please keep using your brown bin ready for collections to start again in the new year.”

Christmas cards and envelopes can be recycled unless they feature glitter and foil and wrapping paper that stays scrunched is also accepted.

Real Christmas trees that don’t exceed 6 feet in height, and have had their decorations and bases removed, will be collected on your usual collection date up to 31st January if cut up and placed in the brown bin or left at the side of it.

People in affected properties on rural collection rounds will be contacted separately.

Anyone who can’t get online can either call the contact centre on 0345 605 3014, use the iPads available for public use in the reception area at Moorlands House, or visit the Council’s reception areas in Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek to speak to customer service advisors.

Council opening times will also be slightly different over Christmas and New Year. Receptions and the call centre close at 1pm on Christmas Eve. The call centre is open on Friday 27th, Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st December and you can also access services online. Offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Receptions will open again on 2nd January.
