Woman dies in Leek house fire

A woman has sadly died following a house fire in Leek.

At 10.20pm last night (24th February), police and fire services received a call from someone who saw smoke coming out of the windows of a home on James Street.

Fire crews attended from Stone, Cheadle, Leek, Sandyford and Longton.

Firefighters forced their way inside and started work to extinguish the fire.

A woman in her 70s was found unresponsive inside. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family are being supported by specially-trained police officers at this difficult time.

A scene has been set up at the address whilst police work with fire investigators to determine how the fire started.
