Dame Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (8th April 2024)

It’s week 45 of my A Year of Reasons to Visit the Moorlands and this week, I would like to feature the amazing Caverswall Creative Hub and their Community Art project.

The Caverswall Creative Hub was set up to offer local people the possibility to join arts and crafts classes for ‘relaxation, mindfulness and artistic exploration’.

The Hub, which is based in Caverswall’s community owned pub, the Auctioneers, organises art groups for everyone in the area, including Arty Parties for birthdays as well as classes for teens, families and, every Tuesday, for older members.

I visited the village on Saturday for the opening of the Community Art project and was really impressed to see people of all ages joining in and producing some really fantastic pieces of art.

Arts workshops have been taking place in local primary schools and community organisations and the theme of each of the workshops was based on the local area.

This artwork has been hidden around Caverswall for the Community Art Trail involving local businesses including Caverswall Cricket Club, Bolton Gate Farm, Caverswall Creamery, Shukers Farm Shop, The Auctioneers Arms, The Red House and Foxfield Railway.

It was really lovely to see so many people in Caverswall, looking at the lovely Art and enjoying the opening. There were opportunities to design a logo for the village store, to make a Peace Dove to be displayed in St Peter’s Church or to take part in a drawing competition. I know that many of the children will have enjoyed meeting the ponies from The Olecote sanctuary too.

I would encourage everyone to visit Caverswall and see the lovely Art displays or if you are local, why not join one of the art classes. Caverswall Creative Hub and Community Art – it’s a really good Reason to Visit the Moorlands.
