Karen Bradley MP – Weekly Update (24th April 2023)

Regular communication and conversation on issues that affect all of us are an important part of the role of an MP.  Last week saw several examples.  The first was with Staffordshire Police Chief Constable, Chris Noble and our Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, Ben Adams in Parliament, together with my fellow Staffordshire MPs.

These meetings are really useful and provide an opportunity to raise local concerns directly with the Chief Constable and the PFCC as well as having a regular update from them regarding policing issues in Staffordshire.

Chief Constable and PFCC meeting

I am pleased that Staffordshire will be one of the Hotspot trailblazer Police force areas in the Government’s Anti-Social Behaviour Plan. I look forward to finding out more about how this will affect us and am pleased that Staffordshire has been chosen as one of the first places to pilot this approach.

On Friday, I took part in a ‘Meet the MP’ session organised by Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and hosted by Buxton and Leek College. This was a great opportunity to hear from local businesses and update people on progress on the work to reopen the Leek to Stoke railway line. I also chaired an Advanced Proteins Liaison Group Meeting in Cheddleton. These regular meetings bring together local residents, councillors and representatives from the Environment Agency and Advanced Proteins.

On Thursday I presented a petition in Parliament on behalf of residents in Biddulph regarding the issue of Education for children with special educational needs in Biddulph. I have asked the Secretary of State to look into the issue and am also working with County Councillor, Keith Flunder to see what the County Council can provide. I would also encourage everyone to complete the online petition on my website so that I can use the data to help in my work.
