Urgent home appeal for dogs who have spent more than a year in North Staffordshire RSPCA care

Rosie & Riot have been with the North Staffordshire Branch for over a year

Could you rehome and find a special place in your heart for a dog struggling to find their pawfect match?

Sadly Rosie and Riot have had little to no interest since they came into the care of the RSPCA North Staffordshire Branch back in the spring of 2022. It means they have both been in kennels for more than a year.

Dawn Hunter from RSPCA Staffordshire North Branch said they are very sad to see both dogs still in their care and hope a special appeal will help them each find a forever home. Both of them came from homes where they were unable to care for their needs.

Riot is six years old and is a lovely friendly boy.

“We just love Riot,” said Dawn. “He will make someone the most loyal companion. He does need an owner willing to put the work in with him – but he will most certainly reward you with lots of love as he has so much to give.

“He is very strong on the lead but with some training he would be much better. He can be reactive to other dogs so would need to be the only dog in the household and would be best with someone experienced.

“He interacts nicely with people and does listen – he loves going for a walk and a great big chew will keep him occupied for ages. He is such a lovely boy and we hope the right person out there for him finds him soon!”

While five-year-old Rosie is also looking for a special someone.

“The lovely Rosie doesn’t realise her strength!” said Dawn. “She will need someone with experience to help her train her to walk nicely on a lead. She is a very happy playful girl, who also likes to chill out throughout the day as well as explore.

“She responds well to food and treats – which will also help with her training! Rosie also loves a great big chew, the bigger the better. She took a while to figure out how to get the darn thing through the doorway to her kennel but now she is an expert!”

As Rosie is a reactive dog would need to be the only dog in the household and needs a special owner to help her learn the social skills she needs to flourish.

RSPCA North Staffordshire Branch covers Stoke on Trent, Newcastle under Lyme and Staffordshire Moorlands. This Sunday (16 July) they are holding a special dog show at the Pavillion, Oakamoor, Staffordshire.

“We can’t wait for our dog show,” said Dawn. “It will be fantastic to see as many people – and their furry friends – as possible come along to join in with the fun and of course support our animal welfare work in the community.”

First entries will start at 12 noon with judging to commence at 1.30pm. There are ten classes for people to enter their pets. For more information please visit their Facebook page.
