Leek man who pushed two officers down stairs jailed

A man who pushed two police officers down a flight of stairs following a domestic incident in Leek has been jailed.

Michael Noble, 33, from Leek, was sentenced to 21 months behind bars after he punched and strangled two officers during an incident in April.

Officers were called to the address after Noble refused to leave.

Two police officers went inside the address and spoke with Noble. They tried to remove him, but he resisted and became violent.

He punched the officers in an attempt to avoid being detained and put his hands around their necks on multiple occasions.

In the struggle, Noble forcefully pushed both of the officers down a flight of stairs.

Despite the assault, both officers continued bravely with their attempts to arrest Noble and managed to put handcuffs on him a short time later.

Whilst on the way to custody in the police car, Noble then bit another officer.

He was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday 5th July for a number of offences, including assault by beating of an emergency worker, intentional strangulation and two counts of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm.

Speaking following the sentencing, Chief Inspector John Owen, said: “This was a violent incident where our officers have been attacked whilst serving the local community.

“Our officers work tirelessly to protect the public and keep our streets safe on a daily basis. They do not deserve to be treated like this.

“I’d like to recognise their commitment to protecting the public and the bravery they showed to continue apprehending this offender despite his violent attempts to avoid justice.

“These officers will continue to be offered the right support to make sure they can continue protecting the public which they proudly serve.”
